Shoulder muscle. Computer artwork of an oblique posterior view from above of one of the muscles (red) of the shoulders and its attachment to the bones of the back and upper arms. This is the infraspinatus muscle, which runs from the infraspinous fossa of the scapula (shoulder blade) to the greater tubercle next to the head of the humerus (upper arm bone). The function of this muscle is to enable rotation of the arm and to stabilise the shoulder joint. The right-hand side of this view includes joint ligaments (white). Also shown here are the bones of the ribcage and spine, and the clavicles (collar bones) across the top of the torso.
