The regiments war service began withinfantry duty in Illinois, The difficult taskof converting an infantry organization intoan artillery unit followed. Long periods ofdrill, weary hikes, constant changes and try-ing waits preceded the supreme test in actualbattle. After the armistice the regimenthad another long wait before sailing forhome. Altogether, that service was a severetest of loyalty and courage.
