A joint portrait of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (Franz Ferdinand Carl Ludwig Joseph Maria) and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg. Gavrilo Prinzip was arrested for the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand (1894-1918) on Sunday 28 June 1914 in Sarajevo. He was a 19 year old Bosnian Serb who was a member of 'Young Bosnia', a movement that sought an end to Austro-Hungarian rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Earlier in the same day, the couple had been attacked by Nedeljko Čabrinović, a member of the Black Hand group who had thrown a grenade at their car.
