Fracking - Upton anti-fracking camp or Upton Community Protection Camp was set up over a year ago in an effort to prevent iGas from drilling an exploratory well for unconventional gas extraction. Local surveys indicate 86% of local residents are against unconventional gas extraction in the area. Local residents have supported the camp which is situated on Duttons Lane, Upton, Chester and supplied food, water and necessary items. Justice David Hodge granted possession of the land to Igas who have leased the land from the local farmer and protesters were to leave the site by Friday 4th. December 2015. The protesters are defying the eviction order and fortified the camp with the help of local residents and anti-fracking campaigners from around the country icluding veterans of Balcombe and Barton Moss campaigns.
