The 1000mm narrow gauge railway that runs from Wernigerode to the summit of the Brocken, in the Harz mountains, Germany


A steam engine pulls a passenger train up the 1000mm. narrow gauge Brocken railway The Brocken Railway faces a steady and uninterrupted incline of 1 in 30 to the Brocken peak 1125m high. The Brocken mountain is the highest one in the Harz Mountain, in Germany. The metre gauge line runs from Wernigerode to the dummit of the Brocken. The peak of the Brocken was a military base which has only been open to the public for a relatively short time, Before reunification the mountain was off limits to all but the Soviet Army.
