Air Raid Precautions at Kingston House, Knightsbridge, London, England, C 1940 A member of ARP staff checks the anti-gas clothing and equipment of 61 Squad, that hangs on a wall at Kingston House. The steel helmets, gas masks, anti-gas capes and wellington boots that line the wall were essential for use during a gas attack. Note also the rows of stored spare helmets and duty gas masks in haversacks in the right foreground of the photograph. The 'R' on his tunic probably indicates that he is from a rescue party.
