Ernst von Bergmann (1836-1907) German surgeon who introduced the sterilisation of surgical instruments. He was called to San Remo to examine the Prussian Crown Prince (1831-1888 - Emperor Frederick III of Germany, 1888) who was terminally ill with cancer of the larynx.
