Juno en de Pauw, Gerard de Lairese, 1670 - 1672 print The hundred -eyed giant Argus, who had to guard from Juno Io, was killed by Mercury. In memory of Argus, Juno took his eyes and put them in the tail of her peacock. Mercury holds the severed head of Argus while Juno takes his eyes out one by one and places them on the feathers of her peacock.
