The quirky event has been running since 1971 and raises funds for the village hall. The peashooter may be made of any material but must not exceed 12 inches in length and may include sighting devices. Peashooters vary from plain tubes to high-tech laser sighted devices. Peas are fired at a putty target from a distance of 12 feet. Five peas are used in the qualifying rounds and 10 for the finals. Credit Julian Eales/Alamy Live News
