Booklice (Liposcelis sp) received their name because they are commonly found in old books. They belong to the insect oder Psocoptera, and are regarded as the most primitive form of hemipteroid insects. They are first found in rocks of the Permian Period (295â248 million years ago), and there are more than 5, 500 known species, they range in size from 1-10mm in length. Psocids are small scavenging insects which normally feed on fungi, algae, lichen and organic materials.
