Chinese jDrovinceswere gradually absorbed bj the neighbouring tribes and by themiddle of the 4th century had entirely disapjjeared from history. Period of Three Kingdoms:—(1) Kokuryu dSlrjfjg). Of the native tribes, the Kuri (p)fp) organized themselvesinto the Kingdom of Kokuryu (j^tr)l|S). followed by the IMahan(,l?^|#) organizing themselves into the Kingdom of Pakjeh (^^),and the Chinhan (M:!^) into the Kingdom of Silla (0flS). whilethe Pyunhan (^|$) remained protected by Jajjan under the nameof Mimana ({iffl.) or Kara (JnM). Then followed the Period ofthe Three Kingdoms, during which took place the first greatinvasion of the Peninsula by Japan under Empress Jingu whopersonally conducted the expeditioniir
