Ours was a seven days boat, making her eighteenknots hourly without effort; a double screw, which had seen action in theSpanish War, wherein she sank one of their torpedo craft. Pier length was554 feet. She was drawing thirty feet of water, and carried a crew of about400. Besides, we iiad on board Sousas Band, en route for the Paris Expo-sition, to cheer ola Neptune and the mermaids.
