The male inflorescence is generally branched, forming in Fandanus and Samranga a panicle, in Freycinetia a small cluster of spikes. The branches of the panicle in Fandanits are true spikes, or appear spike-like from the crowded arrange- ment of their branchlets. The most perfect flow^er occurs in 13—2.
