Carisbrooke Castle is a historic motte-and-bailey castle located in the village of Carisbrooke (near Newport), Isle of Wight, England. Carey's Mansion was built in 1584-6 by George Carey. He was Queen Elizabeth I's cousin and built the mansion to provide himeself with grander accommodation, befitting his status as Captain of the Isle of Wight
