Valproic acid. Molecular model of the anticonvulsant and mood-stabilising drug valproic acid. It is used to treat epilepsy, seizures, bipolar disorder and depression, and is also being studied for use in neurodegenerative diseases and as an anti-cancer drug. Valproic acid is thought to work by increasing the concentration of the neurotransmitter GABA in the brain.
