Tourists at the Victor Emmanuel monument (Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II) in Rome Italy which houses the Altare della Patria or Altar of the Fatherland - the tonb of the Unknown Soldier. The monument designed by Giuseppe Sacconi in 1885, was built in honour of Victor Emmanuel, the first king of a unified Italy. The monument, the largest in Rome, was controversial since its construction destroyed a large area of the Capitoline Hill, a Medieval neighbourhood.
