Inside the American pavilion at Expo 67, Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1967. The USA pavilion used its highest platform (9 stories high) for its space exhibit entitled Destination Moon. The platform was reached by long escalator. Suspended from the ceiling of the pavilion were several actual craft – Apollo (shown here) and Gemini capsules, including the Freedom Seven Mercury capsule. A model of the Surveyor space craft was also on display. The entire exhibit had photographs, films of blast-offs and sounds of recorded conversations, as well as space suits and examples of food used by astronauts. The USA pavilion was geodesic dome hemisphere designed by architect Richard Buckminster Fuller. The 1967 World Exposition (or World's Fair) or ‘Expo 67’ was situated on island site on the St Lawrence River. Its theme was ‘Man and his World’. The attraction lived on after 1967 during summer months and finally closed in 1981. The USA pavilion is now the Biosphere (La Biosphère), a museum dedicated to the environment. This image is from an old amateur Kodak colour transparency taken by a visitor to the fair. It will look soft if used at too large a size – a vintage 1960s photograph.
