A 19th century portrait of Thomas Moore, (1779-1852) National poet of Ireland and writer of Irish melodies. In Britain he wrote as an England press "squib", writer for the Whig party. He was nicknamed Anacreon Moore as a reference to his writing of erotic verses and drinking songs. Moore was a Roman Catholic who also studied law
