A SPECIAL series of postage stamps inhonor of the Pan-American Exposi-tion at Buffalo were distributed bythe Post Office Department of the Gov-ernment to all post offices in the UnitedStates on May 1st. The stamps are of uniform dimensions, of an inch, representing differ-ent forms of modern transportation meth-ods. The borders take the colors of theregular series of the same denominationsof stamps now in use. The words Com-memorative Series, 1901 and UnitedStates of America appear in the upperborder above the vignette; the legend inthe line below names the particular methodof transportation appearing in the illus-tration. The line at the bottom indicatesthe value of the stamp by Roman capitalletters and Arabic numerals.
