Washington – The Marshals Service continued the celebration of its 225th anniversary during a ceremony Dec. 12, 2014, at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The Superior Court Marshal, Michael Hughes, Chief Judge Lee F. Satterfield, Deputy Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, Peter Newsham, and courthouse deputies celebrated the storied past and bright future of the Marshals Service in Washington The ceremony ended with the tradition of passing of a piece of cake from the most senior deputy to the newest to signify the passing of knowledge from one generation

The Marshals has a long and distinguished past as the first federal law enforcement agency in the United States first signed into existence by George Washington in 1789.
