The settlers of Orange Quarter arrived inthe Carolinas in 1680 on board the Richmond ship-of-war. Thevery ancient town of Msme or Mines was an important Huguenotcenter and the scene of much oppression during the religious up-risings. Under the Romans, Mmes was one of the most impor-tant of the cities of Gaul, and no town in France has so manyfine Roman remains.
