Photo essay from hospital. LASIK surgery for shortsightedness. Eye surgery using the LASIK laser is performed in two stages: first a microkeratome is used to shave a thin flap off the cornea. An excimer laser is then used to treat the center of the cornea and the flap is repositioned, bonding to the rest of the cornea without the need for stitches. Overall view of the operating room with microscope-aided monitoring of each surgical gesture.
