The paper kite butterfly also goes by the names rice paper butterfly and large tree nymph butterfly. Its latin name is Idea leuconoe and it belongs to the family Nymphalidae. It is of medium size with characteristically black and white patterned wings. It is a relatively common species in coastal mangrove forests and lowland rainforests up to altitudes of about 400m, notably in west Malaysia, Taiwan and the Philippines.
