Prior to the 1938 acceleration of the Flying Scotsman, a replica of the 1888 twin of seven 6 wheeled coaches was hauled by the preserved Sterling Single 4-2-2 No 1 which was specially brought out of the old York museum and overhauled. It ran from Kings Cross as far as Stevenage where guests transfered to the new train.
