The awe-inspiring cataracts of the Niagara River are amongthe most wonderful in the world. The Horsehoe Fall, thelargest, in the direct course of the river, is three thousandfeet wide, with a perpendicular drop of one hundred and fifty-four feet. The American Fall and Central Fall each has adescent of about one himdred and sixty feet. The length of the Niagara River is but thirty miles from itssource, which is the outlet of Lake Erie, until it dischargesits waters into Lake Ontario. In this short distance the aggre-gate descent of the river is three hundred and thirty-four feet,the greater part of which is confined to a distance of eight miles. Although the Falls themselves present imsurpassed scenery,there are many other places of almost equal interest withinthe radius of a few miles.
