Lieutenant E. H. Cooper, Signal Corps, captured this photograph of Lieutenant Douglas Campbell of the 94th Aero Squadron. On April 18, 1918, Campbell successfully brought down the first German plane, an Albatross #3, for the Americans during World War I. The photograph was taken in Toul, France.
