V DAM W. SPIES, one of the oldest New York firemen now living, is/~\ eighty-six years old. He is one of the most successful merchants ofthe city. He was a member of Engine Company No. 5, and wasmade a lire warden. He and Thurlow Weed studied grammar together in. 1 s17.
