Etienne-Jacques-Joseph-Alexandre MacDonald, Duke of Taranto, French soldier, c1820. The son of a Scottish Jacobite schoolmaster, MacDonald (1765-1840) was made a Marshal of France and Duke of Taranto by Napoleon after his role in the victory over the Austrians at the Battle of Wagram in 1809.
