From fly 1x)y he steadily advanced togeneral oflice manager, holding, at different times, positions on theHerald, Express, Times and Tribune. In the meantime young Camp-bell, not content with the slight education that he had received, attendednight schools and took an active interest in debating. His interest inpolitical questions and his innate ability to lead men naturally turnedhim into active participation in party politics. From the first he wasa stalwart Deinocrat.
