Editorial use only. This image may not be used to state or imply endorsement by CERN of any product, activity or service Laureates for 1988 Nobel Prize in Physics. From left to right, US physicists: Leon Lederman (born 1925), Jack Steinberger (born 1921), and Melvin Schwartz (1932-2006). All three shared the 1988 Nobel Prize in Physics for their experiment at Brookhaven in 1962 that led to the discovery of the muon neutrino. They showed that two types of neutrino exist and that they may be paired with different leptons, forming the basis of the modern theory of elementary particles. Photographed on 1 December 1988.
