Brisbane Telegraph 20 August 1952 Fatal walk in Adelaide St. 216513876 ) An elderly man was fatally injured by a truck at a part of Adelaide Street where there was no pedestrian crossing, according to evidence in the Coroner's Court today. Sergeant W. S. Prior said the scene of the accident was in the path of a short cut taken by pedestrians crossing to Anzac Square to catch trains. The Acting Coroner (Mr. P. W. Schafer) conducted an inquest into the death of Robert Hannah, 89, of Staghorn Street, Enoggera, which occurred in an ambulance on the way to the Brisbane Hospital on May 22. Sergeant Prior said the accident occurred at and he arrived seconds later. It was a clear day. There was no pedestrian crossing at that point. Prior said the driver of the truck involved, Trevor Noel John Kennedy, of Ipswich, told him that after moving off from the pedestrian crossing at Anzac Square he was travelling about 10 towards Edward Street, when he caught a glimpse of a figure at the side of the truck cabin. He swung to the right and applied the brakes, pulling up in a short distance. Sergeant Prior added that there was a full line of parked cars at the spot. Prior said 10 was not an excessive speed. Stanley Eric Keith King, of Wyandra Street, Teneriffe, said that in his opinion Hannah walked between two parked vehicles right into the door of Kennedy's truck. The inquest was closed. Sereenat P. R. O'Farrell examined the witnesses.
