Herpes simplex virus (HSV-2, DNA virus) in cellular vacuoles and cytoplasm of peripheral blood lymphocyte (Herpesviridae Family), coloured transmissio
Herpes simplex virus (HSV-2, DNA virus) in cellular vacuoles and cytoplasm of peripheral blood lymphocyte (Herpesviridae Family), coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). Two virus particles are seen adjacent to the cell membrane in the upper left of the image. The membrane near each virus is depressed and clatharin coated. Herpes simplex is a viral infection. Herpes simplex virus exhibits the classical receptor mediated endocytosis of virus particles. HSV-1 produces most cold sores. HSV-2 causes most of the genital herpes cases. HSV-6 causes neuroinflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis, encephalitis and pneumonitis. Magnification: x7,125 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
