The load to be picked up isstacked above the ground on a suitable support, usuallyon bolsters as shown in the Exhibits above given, sothat the shoes can grasp the ends of the supports and inthat way pick up the load. n/^L^ -<^Ca^<y were suspended by four pendent cables, and lifted andlowered by simultaneous winding, or unwinding of thecables.
