To all appearance thecolored voter excercised the elective franchise as freely as his whiteneio-hbor. Again we have lived in communities where, in addition to thewhite American and the Negro there were also many Germans, Mexicans,Frenchmen, Italians, P^nglishmen, &c. There was no appearance ofrace prejudices or di^isions. Every man voted his preferred ticketwithout let or hindrance. And this is the rule in Texas. If there isany exception it has never come to the knowledge of the writer.
