Further on I encountered two thousand nativescarrying material for the construction of the telegraphbetween Bangi and Lake Tchad, then reinforcementsdispatched from the Senegal to Wadai with largesupplies of provisions and ammunition, and finallyfifty-nine European officers, medical men, and sub-officers sent direct from France to support the Govern-ment in Wadai. Amongst them I met ColonelLargeau, the successor to Colonel Moll, who was killednear Abescher. He had orders to lead a strong forceagainst the Wadais and Massal
