INDIAN OCEAN (Aug. 1, 2015) Marine Col. Vance Cryer congratulates Sgt. Ian Smith after promoting Smith to his new rank aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). Cryer is the commanding officer of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Smith is a member of the 15th MEU’s Command Element.
