a spillage of carcinogenic benzene severely polluted this, one of China's biggest rivers after a chemical plant explosion in the neighbouring province of Jilin causing water supplies in the city to be cut for millions of people for one week. Millions of residents endured their third full day without running water due to the toxic chemical spill, as the government worked frantically to clean up the pollution.
