. Burpee's farm annual. Nursery stock Pennsylvania Philadelphia Catalogs; Flowers Catalogs; Vegetables Catalogs; Seeds Catalogs; W. Atlee Burpee Company; Nursery stock; Flowers; Vegetables; Seeds. Cantaloupes or MUSK MELONS Growers generally recognize that we are Headquarters for Melon Seed, having for many years devoted special attention to growing the finest crops especially for seed. We never handle the "cheap seed," of which bushels are offered annually by market growers, who have saved it "especially for seed" (!) from the refuse melons, too late or unfit to market! Tons of this seed are annually sold—it is lower priced than BURPEE'S SEED ! See page 12 for record of our own introductions. BURPEE'S NETTED OEM MELON. This is a Gem indeed ! First named and introduced by us fifteen years ago, it is no new or untried novelty, but well deserves the prominent position we give it this season in our catalogue. We have pur- posely grown an extra large area, for it is a fact that so steadily has the Netted Gem increased in public favor that for several years of late we have been unable to supply the demand for our own seed. Tfiere is much impure and mixed seed on the market for which we are not responsible, but, when grown from pure seed, we guarantee this to be me beat early small green-fleshed melon known to-day. The illus- tration, engraved from a photo- graph of the melons, shows their shape, which is almost a perfect globe. They grow remarkably uniform, weighing from one and a quarter to one and a half pounds each. They are thick- meated, the flesh is light green in color, and uniformly of fine, luscious flavor; skin green, regularly ribbed and thickly netted. Very prolific and extra early in ripening—no variety being earlier. It is to-day more largely grown for the Phila- delphia markets than any other variety.
