A polychrome saucer with slightly outturned rim, Jiajing (1522-1566). The piece is decorated in underglaze blue with a phoenix and stork and long-life character (shou) all in an ogival-shaped central medallion contained within an underglazed blue double lined border circular medallion. There is a swastika diaper round the ogival medallion. The cavetto is undecorated. The reverse has two five-clawed dragons with scales rendered by zig-zag lines in underglaze blue with two floral sprays. The reverse decoration is contained within double lined underglaze blue borders and clobbered with tomato red. The base has a six character blue mark of Jiajing in the centre without any medallion.
