Dorchester is the County town of Dorset. It has a pedestrianised shopping street at its heart and has some fine churches and civic buildings. To the west of the original Roman settlement Prince Charles has built a new 'town' called Poundbury. It features an eclectic mix of architectural styles and is 'loved' and loathed' in equal measure. In 2016 the central square was named 'Queen Mother Square' and a statue of the Queen Mother was erected. It is an exact copy of the statue in London. The square also features Poundbury's first pub, 'The Duchess of Cornwall', named in honour of Prince Charles's second wife, Camilla.
