Climate activists have barricaded themselves in the German lignite village of Lutzerath in North Rhine-Westphalia. The activists have been occupying the village for more than two years to prevent it from disappearing from the face of the earth, as agreed in a deal negotiated by political leaders. Energy company RWE mines lignite there, which activists blame for global warming and CO2 pollution. Early this morning, police began evacuating the village.
