On the Road from NYC to Buenos Aires Guatemala Antigua Capitanos Generales building and vulcan de Agua


Antigua, founded in 1543 and uilt in an era of fantastic colonial wealth, was devastated by an earthquake in the year 1773. It's one of the oldest colonial cities in all of the Americas. In 1773, one more in a long line of major earthquakes forced to move the capital of the old fashion called Coatemala from Antigua's present location to where now lays Guatemala City. Antigua has being abandoned for almost two hundred thirty years. Nowadays the city has a powerful comeback largely thanks to enlightened city planning and careful preservation. Nonetheless Antigua offers the amenities the modern traveler expects to find. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
