Nameplate of Replica Victorian steam locomotive Planet - Manchester Museum of Science & Industry


The original Planet was built in 1830 by Robert Stephenson and Company in Newcastle for the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. A successful design, it formed the basis for a class of similar engines. This working replica was built in 1992 by the Friends of the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Manchester, where it is seen at work.
