A semi tractor-trailer collided with a car in the northbound lanes of I-75 near Gainesville, Florida, and they both crashed through the barrier and hit an oncoming tractor-trailer and a van carrying 12 people from a Louisiana church, killing 5 children in the the van and both semi The ensuing fire melted the asphalt and sent black smoke into the air visible for miles. Several others were hospitalized in critical to serious condition. The accident closed down traffic on the interstate both directions for hours with 2 southbound lanes closed for days for repairs.
