It is on record that he was one of thatcompany of scholars who aided Luther in his greatwork of Bible translation. One can imagine whatmaterial assistance would be rendered to the Witten-berg Board of Translators by one who was anaccomplished classical scholar, an erudite Hebraist,and a practised shorthand writer. In 1548 Cruciger was struck down with disease,brought on, there is reason to think, by overstrainin study, and after three months continuance thetrouble ended fatally on November i6th.
