Mobile, Ala., native Cpl. Christopher Shiver, a field radio operator with 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, said the most difficult part of the deployment for him is staying motivated. Shiver said there are firefights and improvised explosive devises in the distance from time to time, so the Marines remain ready for the ever-present danger in the area.
