A hiker approaches the summit of Sunday River White Cap, a peak along the Grafton Loop Trail in western Maine. The trail is a new 42-mile loop that branches off the Appalachian Trail in Maine's Mahoosuc Range. The hiker is walking on fixed wooden planks, in place to protect the fragile alpine vegetation.
