I have also suggested another jar, inwhich the ground cover can be easilyprized loose even in case of sticking, andwhich is more elegant than the anatomicspecimen jar. (See Fig. 4.) A platform of glass, porcelain, orenamel ware is being suggested for thereason that aluminum, or nickeled metal,soon oxidizes, especially if the stand isnot fully immersed in the alcohol. Ifa metal stand is used, the alcohol shouldbe poured away, the stand cleaned, and a new alcohol solution made as soon asthe old one appears cloudy. In order toprolong the usefulness of the solution,which gradually loses its optimum con-centration owing to its hygroscopic na-ture, it is practical, when the syringe isput away after use, to rinse it thor-oughly inside and out in boiling distilledwater, and then to evaporate the adher-ing water in dry heat, as for instanceby laying the syringe on a sterilena
