The River Clyde and Dumbarton Rock from Port Glasgow


The River Clyde from Port Glasgow, looking east (upstream) towards Glasgow. Prominent is Dumbarton Rock. Dumbarton Castle, perched on Dumbarton Rock at the confluence of the rivers Leven and Clyde was the seat of the ancient Britons under Coroticus in the 5th Century AD and was sacked by Vikings under Olaf in 869, the rock was also known as Dun Breatann (Rock of the Britons) and Alt Clut (Rock of the Clyde).
