The Varied Industries Building is a magnificent structure on theouter perimeter of the main picture of the Fair. The building pre-sents a facade of 1,200 feet on the north and south and 525 feet on theeast and west, giving 656,250 feet of exhibition space all on the groundfloor. In the center of the north facade is a low dome flanked bytowers about 200 feet high. These towering features afford amplespace for electrical display and illumination. Numerous entrances areon the facades, exclusive of the main entrance in the center. A specially featured entrance is made at the center of the southfacade, a magnificent circular colonnade being thrown out in frontof it. A considerable portion of one of the two large courts will betaken up with exhibits from . Van Brunt & Howe, of Kansas City, were the architects, and theRountree Construction Company erected the building at a cost ofabout $650,000. It was practically completed Dedication Day, April30, 1903, and was occupied by the members of the National Guard, whopicketed the grounds and participated in the Military Parade on thatoccasion. The building houses exhibits of manufacturing processesand of manufactures. Milan H. Hulbert, Chief of the Department ofManufactures, has charge of the exhibits in the structure. Germany excels in industrial arts of every kind. France sent jewelry,silverware, bronzes, pottery, costumes, millinery, etc. Japan exhibits afine collection of porcelain, pottery, carved ivory and wood, lacquer work,embroideries and silk.
